The New York County District Attorney is the lawyer for the People of the State of New York in criminal cases in the borough of Manhattan. The Office has an international reputation as a leader in the professional and impartial prosecution of crimes. As the elected District Attorney of Manhattan, I am committed to upholding the laws and statutes of New York, while working closely with our police and communities to develop strategies to prevent crimes before they occur.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is one of the great civic institutions in this city, with a storied history. There have been only three elected district attorneys in the last 75 years, and each has had a marked impact on our city, on our safety and on our criminal justice system. I am proud to build upon their legacies.

As you will see from this website, the prosecution of crime takes many forms and serves many purposes. The prosecution of street crime helps to keep residents, visitors, and neighborhoods safe. Vigorous enforcement in the areas of complex white collar crime, public corruption, and organized crime allows businesses to thrive and operate without the fear of unfair competition; it also protects the city's tax base to the advantage of the entire metropolitan area.
